6 Brazilian Churches Unite to Construct New Church Building
In the quiet village of Jutai, something remarkable is happening. Men from six different Charis churches are coming together in a beautiful display of cooperation and interdependence. They are working tirelessly to construct a new church building, a future home for a church plant that will serve the local community.
On a recent Saturday, 27 men gathered for a day of hard work under the Brazilian sun. These men traveled from as close as nearby villages and as far as an hour and a half away—all united by the common goal to see the gospel spread in Jutai through this new church plant. The spirit of interdependence was palpable as they worked side by side, mixing cement, laying bricks, and encouraging each other in their work.
The cooperation they displayed isn't a one-time event—it's part of a broader movement among Charis churches in the region. Interdependence isn’t just an idea, but a practice. Each church brings its own resources and strengths to the table. For example, one man, who couldn’t attend paid a skilled worker from his village to take his place, ensuring the work would continue without interruption. Another believer borrowed a cement mixer from a friend and a cart from another, providing essential equipment for the day's labor.
Even the act of feeding the workers is a team effort. A dedicated group of cooks from Quatipuru has taken on the mission of preparing meals for the workers, supported by the women from Jutai. Together, they cook breakfast, snacks, and lunch, ensuring that the men are well-fed and ready to tackle the next phase of construction. The men also often bring food to share, with one pastor famously showing up with a live chicken for the meal. Sometimes, there are even enough leftovers to prepare food baskets for the needy in the village.
This construction project has also sparked curiosity among the locals. They see men coming from surrounding areas to give up their free time to build a church. Why would anyone spend their day off working in the heat for a building that isn’t even for their own church? The answer is because the body of Christ is stronger together. When one part of the body thrives, the whole church flourishes.
With the dedication of the building scheduled for October 26, the excitement is growing. When it’s completed, it will stand as a monument, built by the hands of many, showcasing the power of Christ-centered interdependence. So much can be achieved when God’s people come together for a common purpose. In our unity, we are strong.
